WBC Sets 2008 PBL Team

The Williams Baptist College Phi Beta Lambda has set its 2008 state competition teams.  The 2008 state competition is in Hot Springs on April 21-22.  The 2008 national competition is in Atlanta, Georgia on June 21-24.  This year represents a year of new events and new competitors.

New Events

Marketing Concepts—Paul Brown, Andy Miller and Kendra Partee will compete in the revamped Marketing Concepts event.  This team will take an objective test together at the state competition.  If they qualify for the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta and they score in the top 10, they will compete in a second round case analysis and presentation.

Help Desk—Reid Rogers will take an objective exam and present a case analysis.

Human Resource Management—Ty Jones and Jessica Sheffield will compete in a similar event as Marketing Concepts.  At the state level, they will take a team objective test.  If they qualify for the national competition and if they make the top 10 after the objective test, they will present a case analysis.

Business Ethics—Matt Jeffery, Rachel Burchfield, and Jessica Sheffield will present a case analysis. This year’s topic is “finance and the economy, employees and customers”.  They have selected a finance case that debates the pros and cons of the “leveraged buyout” tool.

Sales Presentation—For the first time in WBC’s history, Ty Jones will compete in Sales Presentation.  Ty is presenting a 10 persuasion speech on radio advertising.

Contemporary Sports Issues—Shane Stolz will take an objective exam over sports issues such as intercollegiate athletics, professional sports management, international sports and sports consumer behavior.
