During the fall 2007 semester, Kyle Rockett asked if he could sponsor a student to attend the April 2008 State Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Leadership Conference. Kyle and Summer DeProw, Chair of the Business Department, decided that Kyle’s donation would cover the registration fees and the remaining would go to the student for the food expenses. Kyle graciously donated $100. Registration fees for the PBL conference are $50.
Kyle wanted to sponsor a student because he enjoyed the PBL trips and competitions while he attended Williams. He sent the following message in an email:
“I donated the money because PBL opened a lot of doors for me when I was student. PBL also gave me the opportunity to travel, which I love to do. I guess I just wanted someone else to have those same opportunities in the case that their financial priorities might have been in other places. This money would provide them with a "bonus" option to allow to enjoy the college experience more. The benefit I gained has already been gained...its from the many memories that I already have from being in PBL. I will gladly pay dividends for those memories and will continue as my personal finances permit. As for my intention, as I already stated....I want the money to assist any student towards their PBL fees and/or activities.”
Kyle’s donation will be given to an international student. Kyle, on many occasions, purchased meals for several of our international students when participating in PBL activities. We plan to continue that tradition.
