Paul Brown Wins 2008 Academic Award

Paul Brown—2008 Department of Business

Academic Excellence and Leadership Award Winner

The following is the speech given at the awards banquet on April 10, 2008 by Summer DeProw, Department of Business Chair.

Good Evening.  For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Summer DeProw.  I have the distinct honor of presenting the Department of Business Academic Excellence and Leadership Award.  The criterion for this award is simple:  Take what God gives you and use it!

Our academic award winner has used his God-given talents to do many things.  First, on the day he graduates, he will have completed 158 credit hours while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.  You may be asking yourself “do you need 158 hours to complete a bachelors in Business?”  Contrary to popular belief, you do not!  This young man will complete two degrees—one is Business Administration and the other in Christian Ministries.

While achieving superior academic achievement, this young man has been the goalkeeper for a much improved Williams soccer team; tutored his peers; completed a demanding internship; volunteered for mission work; started an online business; and participated in the business organization Phi Beta Lambda.  In 2007, he competed at the national Phi Beta Lambda competition in Chicago, Illinois, winning several honors—a second place trophy in Marketing Concepts and Organizational Behavior.

To survive the Department of Business, you must have a sense of humor and our winner has one!  We will miss this young man’s fun quirky sense of humor at future Christmas parties.  His “White Elephant” gifts have provided many giggles.  I brought a sample of his 2007 Christmas gift for you to see. [Put on silly glasses here]  Aren’t these glasses great?

Please put your hands together and give a round of applause for PAUL BROWN!
